What Are You Taking For Granted?

Last night’s sunset lit the sky on fire. I was busy working on a project, and Danny actually had to nudge me and make me look out the window. If he hadn’t, I would have missed these amazing cotton candy clouds.

There was once a time when I didn’t need to be reminded to look out the window and see the beauty of nature on our property. There was even a time when I would (gasp) go outside and experience it for myself! But then life happened, and I realize I’ve become numb to everything going on around me.

It sounds a little glum and maybe even a bit gloomy, but sometimes you need a little gloom to recognize the light.

I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift to God. I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. Ecclesiastes 3:12-14

Was the project I was working on good. Yes. But what God was working on outside better? Probably. It’s good to do your work as unto the Lord, Solomon writes here, but it’s also good to take time to see what God is working on in the world around you. Your work will be a moot point one day, but God’s work will last forever.

Have you taken something for granted lately, something you would ordinarily notice or pay attention to? We all get caught up in the everyday work of life, and we should all take a few minutes today to get our focus back on the Lord. I pray we’ll give God’s handiwork prominence in our thoughts and minds, where it rightly belongs.
