When Panic Sets In

I woke up in a full-blown panic attack this morning. I don't have them very often anymore, but this one was a doozy. I wasn't even having nightmares - it was just a panic. I will admit that I was concerned about a meeting I had to have. I was also sore and worn out from walking the property yesterday afternoon. So my mind was pretty restless - enough to cause panic apparently. When I'm in one of these panic attacks, the only solution for me is to breathe (in for four and out for six) and recite Scripture. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God . Philippians 4:6 So combine the repetition of this verse with my own prayers and supplication. I prayed for calm, for rest and for clarity of thought. I prayed for guidance and patience and peace. And then I pulled out another of my memory verses. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted

Three Envelope Pot Roast

Image
Three packets of mix. Water. Roast. Slow cooker. Yep. That's it. And after a few hours, you'll have the most tender, juicy roast. You could probably curl up right there in the middle of this roast and live. I know I would. Ingredients: * one package of dry Italian dressing mix * one package of French onion soup mix * one package dry brown gravy mix * 1 cup water * one 3-pound chuck roast 1. Mix the three packages of mix together in a bowl and add the cup of water. 2. Place roast in slow cooker and cover with the mixture. 3. Cook on low for 8-9 hours. Enjoy!

Bring Your A Game To Your Bible Study

When it comes to growing spiritually, I'm an incredibly practical person. Emotion has its place, but emotion wears off after a time. Understanding and applying what you've learned last a lifetime. So determine in your heart to get the most out of your Bible study time and bring your A game. Attitude - If you approach Bible study like a chore, it will be a chore. If you approach it as time listening to what God has to say to you, it will be anything but a chore. Your attitude is everything. Attendance - Sure, you can read the Scriptures once and get something out of them. But that blessing is multiplied exponentially when you return time and time again. And the more time you spend in God's Word, the more time you want to spend there. Attention - Do you try to do your Bible study while doing something else? It's impossible to multitask and get anything out of your time with the Lord. Set aside time when you can focus and concentrate and you'll be amazed what G

Boost Your Energy Naturally

I have been sick all week - cough, runny nose and body ache sick. I'm just starting to get over it, but I'm absolutely wiped. There are a lot of things you can do when your energy is almost gone. You can flood your body with caffeine or try to get caught up with a whole lot of sleep. Of course, that just jolts your body instead of doing anything productive. Or you can find some extra energy completely naturally. * Just breathe. Inhale for four counts, exhale for six counts, then repeat liberally. * Enjoy the sunshine. Get outside (now that it's warm!) and soak up the sun. The extra dose of Vitamin D is uplifting. * Be choosy about your food. When you don't feel well, comfort foods are incredibly tempting. Instead, choose healthy, power-packed meals that will wake you up in no time flat. * Exercise. What? I'm already tired. Won't exercising make me more tired? Not really. You'll get your blood pumping and you'll sleep better after you've p

An Alternative To Pasta

Image
In an attempt to eat a little more healthy (please ignore the fact that I made Reese's Pieces cookies last night), I did a little kitchen experiment. This is a mixture of four amazingly wonderful ingredients that, when combined, taste better than pasta and is incredibly good for you. Start with a pound of ground turkey and get it browned up all nice and pretty. I like to use Italian seasoning as I brown turkey, no matter what I plan to make with it. I'm just funny that way. At the same time, heat the largest pan you have and heat up 1/4 cup of water in it. It doesn't have to be boiling, just hot. Then add a bag of slaw and cook until it's tender. This is the kind of slaw that doesn't have sauce on it - it's just the pre-sliced-up slaw. You can use the broccoli kind, which would be amazing, or the plain slaw like I did here. If you start the meat and then heat the water, they'll be done at the same time. Once the turkey is browned, add it to the

A New Scrapbooking Project

Image
A few weeks ago, I bought a package of scrapbook paper that included about 20 different themes for each month of the year. I had to put it away for a while to tackle other projects, but I just pulled it out again and had a flash of inspiration. I'm putting together an 8x8 inch album that can have any number of purposes. Each two-page spread has the same colored card stock background with patterned paper matted on top. Now they can be used for anything from photos to a journal to sign-in books for your dinner guests. I'm having so much fun combining colors and pages - it's been a while since I did much scrapbooking. I'm about 2/3 of the way done, and I'm already looking forward to my next project. The plan is to make a set of note cards, one for each month of the year. I think it will be a great gift for someone who wants to start writing more letters. Now back to the craft room!

Nuggets Of Wisdom To Start The Week

I attended the Daughter of the King Conference this weekend - more than 160 ladies gathered to learn about Confidence through the Generations. Here are a few of the nuggets I gleaned from the four speakers: * We want to start things on time because our God is always on time. * Worship isn't just about the music. It's about being in the presence of God. * We come from all different kinds of backgrounds, but it doesn't matter if we're all daughters of the King. * On the inside of the word "discourage" is the word "courage." If you put courage inside people, you'll build their confidence. * Our words are like seeds. Whatever you plant grows into fruit. What kind of fruit will your words produce? * All the worldly things that we put our time, money and effort into, they're all garbage. Confidence is not in what we do, but in what Jesus Christ did for us. * Confidence is a choice. It's confidence in a God Who doesn't fail.
