Keep The Dangers And The Enemy Out Of Your Life

I actually saw them before I heard them. When there’s movement around an inanimate object, that should catch your eye. And in this case, I’m very glad they did.

Climbing up and down and all over our decorative water pump is an army of wasps. They’ve claimed it as their own, and apparently they are building a colony inside the spigot. This is not great because it’s smack dab in the middle of where we walk the puppies around the driveway, and the dogs are more curious than most. The last thing I want is for a little nose to get stung because there was something weird happening.

The more I look at this picture of the tiny, dangerous insects in our front yard, the more I think about how the devil makes his way into our hearts and minds. It’s never in some grand and glorious battle. It’s in the small, subtle ways, the times when we’re not guarding ourselves the way we need to be.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13

Whenever a word or phrase or concept is repeated in Scripture, it’s because God believes it to be incredibly important. So when we read the same phrase - the WHOLE armor of God - it’s because we are prone to not putting it all on. And when there are cracks in our spiritual armor, we’re giving the devil a place to sneak in.

The wasps found a lovely little home in the water pump because there was an open place for them to access. Now I have no idea what all is up there, what they’re building or how many insects there are.

If we don’t put on every single piece of armor every day, we’re hanging out a welcome sign for the enemy to come take up residence. We can’t accidentally make ourselves safe, and we can’t just sort of protect our home, our family and our church by occasionally doing something wonderful. If we’re not intentional about securing our lives against the wiles of the devil, we won’t know until it’s too late whether he’s found a way in.

Are you ready to fight? Are you ready to put on the whole armor of God so you can keep the devil out of your life? Are you ready to withstand and stand against the enemy on every front? Then don’t leave even a single space open for him to access. Get your defenses in place so there are no surprises and no dangers you weren’t prepared for.
