God’s Masterpieces

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

Some days it’s difficult to look in the mirror and whole-heartedly agree that I’m a masterpiece in any way, shape or form. I look at my imperfect self and the imperfect people around me and wonder how God could look at all He created and still say it is good.

But here’s the secret: it’s not about me. It’s not about my opinion or my perspective because, yes, it’s flawed too. Based on my belief that the Bible is the infallible word of God Himself, then I am truly a masterpiece of workmanship crafted with God’s own hands.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him: Mae and female created he them. Genesis 1:27

Imagine the love that must have been flowing through God when He said, And now it’s time to fashion a human being that has my image stamped on them. His creation (that’s us) has the image of the God of the universe. This should blow any lies we believe about ourselves out of the water. It’s not what you and I have convinced ourselves, but about the truth of how much we are loved and treasured.

But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8

A good potter brings good things to life - they create works of art that move hearts and touch souls. How much more then does something made by the hand of our Heavenly Father reflect the One who made it? We stare in awe at a beautiful sunset or an autumn tree changing colors, but God says we are so much more beautiful and so much more treasured than those things.

My prayer today is that we will grasp the immensity of God’s love for us, His creation. May we spend time in His word, searching the Scriptures for the truth about our Creator and His desires for His people. And may we find comfort in His love and peace in His truth.
