Homemade Apple Butter

All of us have memories of special food from our childhood. It might be some comfort food that just makes you smile or a family recipe that's been passed down for generations.

For me, one of them is apple butter. I can remember special sandwiches with this amazing spread.

So this week I attempted to make my own, and the result was amazing. It takes a little time and some occasional stirring, but the results are totally worth it.

Ingredients:
2 cups unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
Dash of ground ginger

1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, then bring it to a boil.

2. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, stirring every 15-20 minutes. The mixture will darken and thicken, all while making your kitchen smell amazing!

3. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. (If you can wait that long.)
