Praying For All In Authority In Our Nation

There is no better time than the week before Independence Day to be praying for our nation. It's clear if you watch the news, read the paper, talk to people in town or listen to the radio that our country is in dire straits. It's up to God's people to join forces and pray for our leaders.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions,
and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Inspired by God, Paul wrote to Timothy that he needed to be praying for all men, but especially for the kings and those in authority throughout the known world. And if Timothy taught the church to pray for the government and its leaders, they would be a spiritual force to be reckoned with.

It's now our turn to take up the mantle and take a stand in prayer, or a knee as the case may be. Here are just a few ideas of where to start:

* Pray for your local city council, county supervisors and other leaders in your immediate area, the representatives who are in charge of your day-to-day life. Pray that God will give them clarity of thought, strength to stand up for what is right and a soft heart that cares more about serving people than power and popularity.

* Pray for your state representatives, that they will learn what their constituents need. Pray that they will make good, godly choices and work hard to do whatever is necessary to make your state strong.

* Pray for our national leaders, those who have the fate and lives of an entire country in their hands. Pray that they will not be swayed by money or popularity, and that they will be courageous when speaking their minds. Pray that they will form positive relationships with other leaders so they can work together for the greater good our our nation.

* Pray for your church leaders, that they will always stand on God's side regardless of any pressures pushing in on them. Pray that they will always preach and teach the truth of God's word and be a spiritual influence in the lives of their church members.

How do you pray for the leaders of our cities, states, nation and church?
