When Peace Like A River...

We can look anywhere we'd like, but there's only one place to find perfect peace. And isn't that truly what we're searching for in this fast-paced world?

I found a double portion in my kitchen yesterday, while rolling out sugar cookies, of all things. There was no music on, no television, no other people. Just perfect peace and quiet - even the neighbors found inside things to do, which is out of the ordinary.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

While singing How Great Thou Art, I realized how predictable cookie baking is. If I get in a hurry and don't let the rolling pin roll of the edge of the dough, it will stick and roll back on itself. If I wiggle the cookie cutter too much, the image will be ripped and torn beyond recognition.

But if perform each task, in the proper order, with the right heart attitude, everything comes together the way it was intended. After wasting tons of time over the past two weeks looking for the perfect sugar cookie recipe to use for Jubilee this weekend, it finally occurred to me. Yesterday I pulled out my grandmother's Christmas cookie recipe - and it was like going home.

The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. Psalm 29:11

Peace isn't in the noise or technology or finances of the day. It's in the still small voice. It's in the rhythmic repetition of rolling and cutting dough. It's in singing a hymn of praise while completing the day's chores.

Perfect peace is found in the presence of the Lord. It's knowing that this very moment is in the hands of our loving Heavenly Father and He has the perfect moment chosen just for us.

Enjoy your walk with God today and rest in His perfect peace.

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39
