A Weekend Of Tiny Changes

It's now October, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the trees on our property. We haven't had much rain lately, and it's been very warm and humid. They're as big and bright and green as if it was the middle of June instead of early fall.

But if you look very closely, if you walk right up to a tree and squint a little, you'll see one yellow leaf here and there. And then one small limb of yellow leaves right over there. They may be spread out so far around the tree that they really don't stand out. If you just glance at the tree and look away, you'll never even notice them, but they're there, turning little by little.

By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land. Exodus 23:30

God knew that if He cleared away all of Israel's enemies with one sweep of His hand - which He could easily have done - it wouldn't have benefited His people at all. He saw the bigger picture and knew that the land would suffer desolation if He did, and He knew the people wouldn't have the same strength of mind and body if He did all the work for them. It may have seemed cold and uncaring at the time, but the Lord knew exactly what they would have to go through in order to become strong and built up as a nation.

Make this a weekend of noticing the tiny changes. You can't see one little leaf changing colors if you're not up close and personal and looking for it. The same goes for your life - you may still have the same circumstances all around you, so much so that you don't see how God is changing that one little part of your life to increase you and bring you closer to Him. Take special time this weekend to find the leaves of change His is working on right this minute.
