What To Remember This Year When Christmas Doesn’t Seem Like Christmas

It’s been so difficult to get in the holiday spirit this year.

Illness and quarantine.
Changes and discouragement.
Separation and safety.
Hot tempers and negativity.
Sharp words and dull minds.

How different these are compared to the words we’re traditionally thinking about this time of year.

Glory and honor.
Savior and Messiah.
Stars and light.
Comfort and peace.
Good tidings and great joy.

Christmas may be different this year as we celebrate in new and different ways, but Spirit behind it should never change.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people ... Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:10, 14

The circumstances around us may change every time the wind blows, but the great joy and peace from heaven is exactly the same today as it’s always been. That’s the Spirit in our Christmas celebration, reminding us that the reason for the season is still Jesus Christ and our praise to the Lord is still giving thanks for salvation. We’re just about as joyful as we determine in our hearts that we want to be.

So when Christmas doesn’t seem like Christmas this year, we need to turn our hearts toward heaven and celebrate there first.
