A Weekend of Bruise Recovery

This is my bruise. I vaguely remember hitting my leg on a chair at work, but it certainly wasn't anything monumental. But there it was the next day - all dark and tender and ugly.

Do you ever feel like that at the end of the day? Like you've been hammered on and poked at and bruised? I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels damaged by the things life throws at me.

Bruises stick around for a while because of the thoroughness of the healing process. But the pain goes away and the color goes away in time. The same goes for your heart.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

There is hope. We don't have to stay crushed and beaten down by life. We have recovery and rejuvenation by turning to the Lord.

Make this a weekend of recovering from your bruises. Do whatever you have to do to heal. Closet yourself away for a while. Sit still for more than a minute at a time. Read through God's Word the way you wish you did during the week. Push all those thoughts and words and whatevers out of your mind that you've been storing up.

You'll be glad you did.
