The Best Big Dog Ever Goes Back To The Vet

The best big dog in the whole wide world took a trip to the vet's office last week. She's ok for the most part, just getting older and starting to hurt more ... just like the rest of us.

The trip itself was an adventure, as it was her first time in the new car. We got it specifically to keep the dogs safe and sound in the back, not jumping and jostling all over the car and getting us all in trouble. The only sad part is that now Molly's all the way in the back and not up with me.

Ok, it's sad for me. She absolutely loved it. She had the windows all to herself, she could see people in the vehicles behind us, and she could sit up and lay down as she needed to.

It was also the first time we'd been to our vet's new office. Their new, larger building is perfectly sized for a Great Dane. There were lots of new smells, a new layout, and a new floor to get used to. She wiped out on the kitchen floor once when she was a puppy, and now she's very skittish on slick floors.

But it didn't take long for her to find the window, which had several birds outside to watch. And the pets int he other exam rooms had plenty to talk about, too, so there was a lot for her to listen to and try to figure out.

Molly adores Dr. Jordan, so she was thrilled when he came into the room. He gave her a thorough checkup, did some blood work to check her liver and kidneys, and then spent a good bit of time loving on her and letting me know that she's doing great. She's almost 11, and she has some arthritis and stiffness, but for a dog her size, she's rockin' it. I think this face says it all.

One more adventure for the day lay ahead - as we were checking out, I couldn't figure out what Molly was so intently staring at. If you zoom in on the picture, the vet's office cat is sitting in that second chair. It was watching Molly's every move, so she was watching it back. I'm not sure what she would have done if she got close to a cat, but it was a fun way to end the roadtrip.
