A Weekend of Weeding

Last summer, we removed several bushes from our gardens. They were dying and had become a hiding place for creepy, crawly things that I don't even want to mention. So it was time for them to go.

I have every intention of planting some new flowers and bushes in those spaces, but it just hasn't happened yet. And now there are little sprigs of weeds growing up in the crevices. They're not huge and everywhere, but they're very definitely getting ready to be a problem.

And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Matthew 13:3-8

Make this a weekend of tending to the weeds. The thorns sprung up and choked out the Word. They took over the spot that would have been cleared and ripe for growing something wonderful. Like this portion of Scriptures continues to say, He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. (Matthew 13:22)

What's growing up in your heart? Is it the cares of the world and other things that would try to choke out your faith, causing you to be unfruitful? Use this weekend to do some landscaping and get those weeds out of your heart.
