Turning Your Mind Off

Sometimes I just can't turn my mind off.

Please tell me you have days like that, too. I'd hate to be alone in this one.

And I can't blame it on the devil or anyone else this time. My thoughts are my own, and I'm the one in control of them.

So why do they get so out of control sometimes?

An otherwise peaceful day is cluttered with the busyness of thoughts. Maybe they're not even bad - they're just there. Constantly. Reminding you of things. Trying to keep a mental list. Or rehashing old stuff. Or preparing for something that hasn't even happened yet.

Or maybe they are discouraging thoughts, thoughts that you really don't want to entertain but they arrive anyway. Then you make the mistake of rolling them around in your mind a little - and a little more - and soon you're not just listening, you're worrying.

Thoughts don't seem like such a terrible thing, but they can be if they're not dealt with properly. And that means shutting your mind off.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10

One of the most beautiful verses in the entire Bible for meditation reminds us to shut our minds off and focus on the Lord.

Be still - shut everything else down, stop moving, create a quiet heart and just be.

And know that I am God - no thoughts in this human mind will can do anything. The will of the Lord, His purpose, His plans and His delights for the day will overcome thoughts - positive or negative.

I will be exalted - don't give more power to thoughts that you give to God Himself. In the end, God will always be glorified and He will always be victorious. Even over thoughts.

So when your mind becomes to cluttered to function, turn everything off, meditate on the Word of God and start fresh. Be still, even in the flurry of the day. Know, no matter what may come your way. Exalt Him, in every situation.
