And He Will Raise You Up On Eagles Wings

One of the absolute most wonderful things about living right on the river is getting to see eagles every single day in the winter. You can literally be a few feet away from them as they soar, hunt, and travel to their nests and back, right over your head.

On Saturday, my wildlife event was held at our convention center, which has a wall of windows in the back that overlook the river. And the eagles. Seems more than appropriate for a conservation celebration.

I snapped this picture through the window on my phone in the snow - three great setups for good pictures, right? But this eagle surrounded by gulls just made my heart happy, and I wanted to capture him in flight.

It shouldn't be surprising how many Scripture there are about eagles. This week I'm putting together an order of cards for our Etsy shop, and I've found myself drawn to the eagle images I have collected over the years. I think I'll put them together with some powerful Scripture and make them a set. Maybe I'll even put this picture I took up on my work table for inspiration.

The first mention of eagles goes all the way back to Exodus, and the last . In the Old Testament, they describe God bringing down the enemy, Jeremiah's prophecy of chariots and horses, and the visions of Daniel and Ezekiel. There are only four references in the New Testament - two about them being scavengers and two in Revelation about the beasts and the woman.

Many of the verses that include eagles will be perfect for cards, though others would be stretching it to say the least. (This is the perfect example of why we don't take Scripture out of context to prove a point.) These are the three I've chosen to use. I can't wait to show you the results.

And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. Exodus 19:3-4

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him. Deuteronomy 32:11-12

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew theirstrength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
