Spillin' The Tea On My Favorite Teas

I have never been a tea drinker. While several in my family drank tea daily, I always thought of it as colored hot water. When I started college I started drinking coffee and never looked back.

When I hit the second week of my now four-week sinus infection, Danny brought in reinforcements - three teas (plus a coffee) to soothe my throat and fight the good fight from the inside out. Here are the basics:

  • Chamomile & Orange Blossoms: Known for their calming, anti-anxiety properties, these flowers help improve sleep quality, reduce stress, and support immune health.
  • Hibiscus & Rose Blossoms: Packed with antioxidants, this combination helps flush out toxins, supports heart health by managing blood pressure, and promotes skin health to reduce puffiness and create a "glowing" effect.
  • Peppermint & Spearmint: These provide a cooling, refreshing effect that helps soothe digestive discomfort, reduce gas, and relieve headaches.
  • Ginger & Licorice: These ingredients act as natural anti-inflammatories, aiding digestion, easing nausea, boosting immunity, and offering a subtle sweetness to the blend.
  • Honey: A natural sweetener, it provides added nutrients and helps soothe the throat.
  • Plus, these herbal blends offer a potent mix designed to support digestion, reduce stress, enhance beauty through high antioxidants, and provide a calming, anti-inflammatory effect on the body. It acts as a de-bloating and calming ritual, boosting skin radiance while aiding in soothing discomforts like anxiety and digestive issues. No need to save them for just sick days!

So here are the four that I've been rotating for the past three weeks. Three are readily available, and if you don't have a Hy-Vee grocery store, you can find something similar in your own.

    1. Green Mountain's Cinnamon Honey Drizzle Coffee: Since I'm used to at least two cups of coffee by 8 a.m., this was the perfect choice. Its honey is soothing, it's cinnamon a little spicy, and the warmth a great way to start the day.

    2. Hy-Vee's Honey Orange Chamomile Herbal Tea: The fruitiness of this one sets it apart, and the combination of the orange and chamomile calm and soothe my throat on the first sip.

    3. Bigelow's Sweet Dreams Herbal Tea: Luckily this one helps out all day and not just at bedtime. The mint is so cooling on a sore throat, and it mixes some relaxing herbs like peppermint, rose, spearmint, and orange to soothe that never-ending tickle.

    4. Celestial Seasonings' Sleepytime Throat Tamer: My personal favorite. I will probably have to buy stock in this one. Its blend of chamomile, licorice, ginger, tills estrella (flowers), and slippery elm bark sounds crazy, but it's a miracle worker. This one will take permanent rotation in my daily routine for its calming, soothing, desensitizing properties. Love it.

    What's your go-to beverage when you're sick?
