My Bright Birds And Blooms Planner Layout

October in Iowa means going from dramatic storms and flooding rains to 85 degrees and bright, beautiful sunshine in a matter of hours. This weather uncertainty led me to create a beautiful, flower- and bird-filled planner layout that will sparkle and shine regardless of what's happening outside! The bright colors of the flowers and 3D metallic edges on the birds practically make these images fly off the page.

For this spread, I started with the largest flowers in the set as my anchor points and scattered them down each page. Then I went back and matched up each large bouquet with smaller blooms and added a sweet bird to each cluster. As you can see from the pictures, the birds practically glow in the light - I can't wait to see this spread for the next seven days.

My prayer for this week is that our hearts will glow as brightly as these images in my planner. There may be a lot in the world that's evil and ugly, but the Holy Spirit living inside us can outshine it all when we let it. Let's be the light and the change that's needed - in our own homes, in our communities, and in the world at large. We will always be blessed for shining brightly for the cause of Christ!

Holland Creme - That Amazing White Stuff In Donuts

Image
I remember going to the grocery store every Saturday morning when I was growing up, and my favorite place in the entire store was the donut case. All the glazed, powdered and filled baked goods drew me like a magnet. My favorites, far and away, were the ones filled with that beautiful white, fluffy creme. At the time I didn't know it was called Holland Creme - I just knew it was the most amazing concoction ever. Ever. Here is my version of this sweet treat. You can make your own fried donuts and fill them, or like I did here, you can cut a crevice into store-bought donuts with a knife and fill them with creme in a piping bag. Either way, you're going to love it. Ingredients: 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 1 cup vegetable oil 1 cup shortening 1 cup butter 1 Tbsp vanilla 7 cups powdered sugar 1. Make a simple syrup by combining sugar and water in a sauce pan over medium heat until boiling, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool complet...

The Lord, My Shield And My Buckler

Sometimes verses of Scripture grab ahold of your heart and don't let go. That happened to me several months in a row as I was reading the books of Psalms and Proverbs.  If you don't already, add reading the Proverb that corresponds to the day of the month - 31 Proverbs, 31 days - to your Bible reading schedule. Similarly, if you read five Psalms every day, you'll read the entire book each month. On the first of the month, Psalm 5:11-12 stood out like they were under a spotlight. Repeatedly. Every month like clockwork. But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.  For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as   with  a shield. Psalm 5:11-12 It was the word shield - favor like a shield, wrapping around with protection and love. Shields are a defensive weapon, so knowing that you're surrounded and protected means you c...

Scriptures About Freedom Perfect For Independence Day

Image
In Sunday School yesterday, we took a break from our chronological study of the Bible to do a fun Fourth of July lesson. We made the youth a packet full of patriotic pictures with Scripture on them. Then we talked about each one in context with the verses around it, not just pulling out verse that sound nice or fit well. After studying several of them, we found a few favorites. They're perfect for creating some digital art of your own, or for using on and in a greeting card. Galatians 5:1 - Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Psalm 33:12 - Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. Romans 8:2 - For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Psalm 118:5 - I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. Romans 8:15 - For ye have not received the ...
