Jesus Remains Regardless Of The Changing Seasons
Fall is the perfect time to discuss the immutability of Jesus Christ.
Wait, what? That's a big concept tied to the seasons, but it fits together perfectly.
According to the dictionary, immutability is the state of being unchangeable, referring to objects or data whose content cannot be altered after creation. How much more so does this apply to our God, who has never changed one iota, ever, and never will.
The weather changes moment by moment, month by month, season by season. Rarely do we have two days with the same temperature and wind conditions, let alone a string of them together. We expect that, though. We know that summer will turn into fall, which it is beginning to in southern Iowa, and that soon we'll be talking about coats and snow. That's just how the changing seasons work.
But we never have to think about Christ changing in any way, shape, or form.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8
We know this verse from Hebrews forwards and backwards because it's so simple ... and there's a hymn written about it! But let the truth sink in today.
Jesus Christ.
The same as He's always been.
The same today that He was in the past.
The same tomorrow and He was today.
The same in the future that He has proven Himself to be.
If this doesn't give you peace and stability, nothing will.
Read the Old Testament and take note of what the people and prophets knew the Messiah would be like. They experienced God on a personal level, knew His attributes, and looked forward to a Savior who would be just like Him. That's the same Son of God we experience today.
Read the New Testament and see how Jesus lived His life and interacted with people. Those are the same characteristics and experiences we have with Him today. Nothing has changed except the year on the calendar. We can trust that He is exactly as He was written about more than 2,000 years ago.
Read Revelation and learn how the future events will change nothing about who Jesus is. The time, the circumstances, and the situations that are coming won't change a single thing about who He is. He is immutable, unchanging, steadfast. Forever and ever, amen.
The seasons come and go, changing from moment to moment, but the Lord that we serve and love remains. Always.
