When You Need All The Wisdom You Can Get

Oh my goodness, did I ever pray for wisdom last week!

We had a work situation last week that could have spelled disaster for not just my job and my organization, but several city proxy groups throughout the community. That's one of the looming dangers of relying on entities outside your own organization - it's never 100% secure.

When the situation arose, I went into battle mode. Not against people or organizations, but against whatever the enemy thought he was going to accomplish. Warrior Me gets pretty locked in when it comes to spiritual warfare.

On Sunday, Pastor preached from the first 11 verses of James, how trials and testing show that we're doing the right thing, while at the same time God is ready to teach us and grow us. Growing hurts, but it's part of the natural process of maturing as a Christian. Stagnant Christians stink.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all menliberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:2-8

Pastor also talked about living expectantly, knowing that when you ask God for wisdom, he's not going to withhold for any reason. You just have to put your faith to work and stand strong, refusing to waver like the top of a boat's mast in a storm. That picture always stops me in my tracks. Who wants to wave back and forth wildly, never finding solid ground to stand on?

On Monday we learned that the situation was starting to stir, and those verses from the day before flashed in my mind like a blinking neon light on hyper-repeat. It shall be given. That Bible promise fueled my battle fire, that's for sure. I immediately started praying for wisdom, that I would have all God's knowledge and understanding to handle things they way He would have me handle them. Above all, I wanted to glorify and honor Him regardless of the outcome.

So from dinnertime Monday to dinnertime Tuesday I prayed, fasted, prayed more, did all the research I needed so I had numbers and facts, and prayed even more. I did a prayer walk of our building to talk things out with the Lord, and I read a couple of my favorite Bible passages about people who overcame obstacles. It's been a long time since I felt like God was filling me in such a special, personal way, and it was exactly what I needed.

Long business-themed story short, God handled the situation and I didn't have to anything except show up. The conversation lasted approximately three minutes, and there would be no change in the way we do business. I hadn't ugly cried in the car in a while, but that night my rolling prayer closet got a workout as I praised God for His grace and mercy in every aspect of my life.

God is faithful. When you read a Bible promise and know that it applies to you, rest assured that God will be faithful and do as He said. Whether it's wisdom, protection, supplying a need, or just calming your mind and heart, I pray that you will give it to Him and trust in the results. Now let's go boldly into the week knowing that we can stand in faith, unwavering, and watch how God takes each situation and turns it into something amazing for our good and His glory!
